HISTORY
BACKGROUND TO FSC Development Services Ltd
FSC Development Services Ltd (FSC) specialises in assisting companies and organisations develop profitable, sustainable, business
and trade, particularly with developing countries and the new emerging markets.
FSC was incorporated in 1988 (formerly as Farm Services Company Ltd) to assist in the development of the private sector and to plan
and implement sustainable commercial projects in developing countries e.g. Africa, Asia, specifically in the food and agribusiness sectors.
Its initial shareholders were Rural Investment Overseas (RIO) from the UK, DEG (German Government Development Corporation (from Germany)
and subsequently EDESA (Economic Development of Equatorial and Southern Africa) from Switzerland.
In the 1990’s FSC worked closely with donors and business development agencies e.g. DFID, EU, USAID, on enterprise and private sector
support programmes, particularly in Africa and Central America. We also provided “hands on” management and technical assistance to a wide
range of companies in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and China, including the sourcing of matching funds to contribute to the costs of these
services e.g. through FMO-Netherlands, and undertake business plans and the identification of investment finance (equity and loans).
Our experience of working in a wide range of countries has resulted in our advising and supporting an increasing number of UK companies
and also working with international business support organisations e.g. UKTI, DFID, EU, to develop greater international trade and investment.
This has shown the value of developing closer partnerships between both parties, resulting in faster and more sustainable, trade and business
development. Mutual benefits can also accrue due to exchanges in technology and new markets. Through this work FSC has developed extensive
experience in the identification and sourcing of UK and European funds to assist companies undertake overseas market/partner research and
project development.
