SECTORS
The term Sectors simply refers to the industries or business environment in which a company operates. Some sectors can be
very specific and relatively easy to understand e.g. Food & Drink, Transport whilst others are considerably less so e.g. Advanced
Engineering, Environmental. To complicate matters further, a significant number of companies have products/services which are
used in, or apply to, several sectors.
Most international markets are defined by their sector potential and many business support organisations, both regionally,
nationally and internationally, have specific sector focuses. It is therefore important that companies should clearly demonstrate
the sector(s) which it works in to enable its client base to recognise it as a potential supplier/partner and other support
organisations to accurately identify market opportunities. Sector definition can also help to establish a stronger business
structure and marketing approach for the company, which is essential in the long term planning of a business.
